Police Charge Man After Pursuit - East Maitland

A man has been charged after a pursuit in Hunter Valley last night.

About 9.50pm yesterday (Friday 9 May 2025), officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were patrolling on Molly Morgan Drive, East Maitland, when they attempted to stop a red hatchback being driven in a dangerous manner.

When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through Main Road, Kurri Kurri, where road spikes were successfully deployed.

A short time later, the vehicle stopped on Main Road, Cliftleigh, where a 29-year-old man was arrested.

Further checks revealed the man was a disqualified driver.

He was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously and driver motor vehicle during disqualification period.

He was subsequently charged with an outstanding warrant on drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, use unregistered registerable Class A motor vehicle on road, and cause or permit uninsured motor vehicle to be used.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 10 May 2025).
