Police Charge Man After Pursuit - Merrylands

A man will face court charged after a pursuit in Merrylands overnight.

About 8.10pm on Saturday (23 August 2025), officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command were conducting patrols on Merrylands Road, Merrylands, when they sighted a vehicle without registration plates.

As police approached the vehicle, the driver allegedly drove away from police.

Police sighted the vehicle in Reyes Lane and attempted to stop it, however when the vehicle allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through Merrylands and Guildford before traveling westbound along the Horsley Drive, Fairfield.

The vehicle continued to the intersection of Nelson Street, where it has crashed into the rear of a stationary SUV.

The driver – a 52-year-old man – and a 44-year-old passenger – were both arrested at the scene.

Upon searching the driver, police allegedly located and seized methylamphetamine, cocaine and cannabis.

The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken to Fairfield Hospital for further assessment.

The passenger was released.

A passenger from the SUV– a 34-year-old woman – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital as a precaution.

Upon the man's release from hospital, he was taken to Granville Police Station and charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed and three counts possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 24 August 2025)
