Police charge man after search finds drugs and cash

A man has been charged after officers from the Public Order Response Team (PORT) found him in possession of alleged illicit drugs in Melbourne West yesterday.

The PORT officers were patrolling Spencer Street when they noticed the man acting suspiciously about 3.30pm.

A search of the man and his possessions located quantities of alleged methylamphetamine, ketamine, heroin, GHB, prescription medication and over $2000 cash and other drug-related paraphernalia.

The 50-year-old Melbourne West man was arrested.

A search warrant was subsequently executed at a Spencer Street address where cannabis and a further $5000 was located.

The man was charged with several offences including trafficking and possession of methylamphetamine, ketamine, heroin, GHB, possession of prescription medication without a prescription, dealing with property suspected proceeds of crime and hinder police.

The man was bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 5 May 2022.

The drugs have an estimated street value of $40,000.
