A man will face court charged following an investigation into a serious assault in Sydney's inner east last week.
On Tuesday 17 March 2026, emergency services were called to a store on South Dowling Street, Paddington, following reports of an assault.
Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command attended and were told a 34-year-old man – who is an employee at the store – had allegedly been assaulted with a glass bottle by an unknown man.
The unknown man then allegedly kicked and punched the man before leaving the store.
NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the man before he was taken to hospital, where he was treated for a lacertation to his head and an injured wrist.
A crime scene was established and detectives from Surry Hills Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the incident.
Following inquiries, at 8am today (Tuesday 24 March 2026), investigators attended an address on Moore Park Road, Paddington and arrested a 19-year-old man.
He was taken to Surry Hill Police Station and charged with:
- Wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm,
- Wound retail worker reckless as to causing worker actual bodily harm,
- Use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence,
- Excluded person re-enter/attempt to re-enter premises
The man was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 7 tomorrow (Wednesday 25 March 2026).
