Police charge man after serious assault at Wollongong

A man has been charged over an alleged serious assault that left another man critically injured in Wollongong this morning.

About 3.45am (Tuesday 30 August 2022), officers from Wollongong Police District attended an apartment building on Market Street after receiving information about an alleged assault.

A 47-year-old man was located in the reception area suffering severe injuries.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Wollongong Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic police.

A 38-year-old man was arrested a short time later at Wollongong Police Station; he has since been charged with one count each of attempted murder, and cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder – serious indictable offence.

The Wollongong man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 31 August 2022).
