Police charge man after serious domestic violence related assault - Peakhurst

A man will face court today after alleged domestic violence related assaults that left a woman with a shaved head, numerous broken ribs and vertebrae.

About 10pm yesterday (Tuesday 2 July 2019), a 27-year-old woman, who had sustained severe facial injuries, attended Riverwood Police Station with a young child.

Officers from St George Police Area Command requested assistance from NSW Ambulance paramedics, who attended the station and began treating the woman's injuries.

The 27-year-old woman continues to receive treatment.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 32-year-old man at a home on Belmore Road at Peakhurst.

The man was charged with intentionally choke person without consent, common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

It will be alleged in court that the man repeatedly assaulted the woman and she sustained a fractured eye socket, vertebrae and ribs. It will be further alleged the man cut her hair off.

He has been refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Wednesday 3 July 2019).

Their children are currently in the care of family members.

Inquiries are continuing.
