Police charge man after shots fired in police presence

A man has been charged after he allegedly discharged a firearm in Greta West on Monday, 25 May.

Police were called to a rural property in McMonigles Lane about 6.15pm following reports of a trespasser.

It is alleged officers were confronted with an agitated man brandishing two firearms.

Police attempted to negotiate with the man who then concealed himself on the property.

It is alleged during the incident that three shots were fired causing the responding police to seek cover and retreat to safety.

Police continued negotiating with the man who then surrendered without incident about 9.15pm.

A 38-year-old Craigieburn man has been charged with discharge a firearm reckless to the safety of police, conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury and indictable assault police.

He was remanded to appear in the Wangaratta Magistrates' Court in the morning.
