Police charge man after St Albans fatal hit and run

Major Collision Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man in relation to an alleged hit-run in St Albans on 8 May.

It's alleged a 78-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Main Road East near the corner of Erica Avenue about 9pm.

The St Albans man died at the scene.

A 64-year-old Essendon man was arrested this afternoon and has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, fail to stop and fail to render assistance.

He has been denied bail to appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
