Police charge man after stand-off with police at Wagga Wagga

A man has been charged with six offences following a police operation in the state's south yesterday.

Shortly before 4am (Saturday 12 October 2019), officers from Riverina Police District were called to a home at Mount Austin following reports of a domestic-related incident.

Upon arrival, the man allegedly threatened officers with a machete.

Specialist officers arrived at the scene and began talking with the man in order to resolve the matter peacefully.

He was arrested without incident about 8am (Saturday 12 October 2019) and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station.

A crime scene was established, and several items were seized for forensic examination.

The 38-year-old Tolland man was charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage cause actual bodily harm, use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and contravening a domestic Apprehended Violence Order.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court tomorrow (Monday 14 October 2019).
