Police charge man after threatening neighbour with a meat cleaver - Pendle Hill

A man has been charged after allegedly threatening his neighbour with a meat cleaver and damaging property in Pendle Hill yesterday.

About 12.50pm (Wednesday 22 July 2020), a 35-year-old man was involved in a domestic dispute with his mother in the driveway of their Targo Road, Pendle Hill home.

It's alleged the argument became physical as the man slapped his mother in the face.

Police will allege he then armed himself with a meat cleaver and smashed the rear windows and side mirrors of his neighbour's car.

He then approached his neighbours house – accusing the 50-year-old man of calling police. He allegedly swung the meat cleaver towards his neighbour who was standing behind his front security screen door. The weapon cut through the mesh; however, the man left the premises without further incident.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command were called, and they attended the home where they arrested the 35-year-old man.

He was taken to Granville Police Station where he was later charged with two counts of malicious damage, being armed with intent to commit serious indictable offence and common assault.

He was refused bail and will appear in Fairfield Local Court today (Thursday 23 July 2020).

The man's mother and neighbour were not injured.
