Police Charge Man After Vehicle Stop At Newcastle 20 May

A man will face court today charged following a vehicle stop at Newcastle yesterday afternoon.

About 3.50pm (Monday 19 May 2025), police stopped a vehicle on Hassall Street, Hamilton South, and spoke to the driver in relation to a Firearms Prohibition Order compliance check.

A subsequent search of the driver and vehicle allegedly revealed 11.79g of a substance believed to be methamphetamine, 0.8g of a substance believed to be heroin, and 20g of liquid believed to be gamma-hydroxybutyrate.

The driver – a 25-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station to assist police with inquiries.

A short time later, police executed a search at a home on Moate Street, Georgetown, where they allegedly located and seized a replica revolver firearm in a bedroom.

The driver has since been charged with six offences:

  • Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended,
  • Drive, licence suspended under s 66 Fines Act,
  • Supply prohibited drug (greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity),
  • Possess prohibited drug (two counts), and
  • Firearm etc found at premises-subject to prohibition order.

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Tuesday 20 May 2025).
