Police Charge Man After Vehicle Stop At Newcastle 19 February

A man will face court today charged following a vehicle stop near Newcastle yesterday afternoon.

About 12.10pm (Wednesday 18 February 2026), police were patrolling Maitland Road, Mayfield, when they stopped a vehicle for random testing.

The alleged driver, a 23-year-old man, underwent a roadside drug test that allegedly returned a positive result.

The man was arrested for the purposes of a secondary oral fluid test, which also allegedly returned a positive result. The results will be sent for further analysis.

Following inquiries, police commenced a search of the vehicle where they allegedly located and seized items interest including two bullets, approximately 131g of cocaine, approximately 11g of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, steroids, knives, an axe, knuckle dusters, a radar blocker, electronics, and more than $4,400 cash.

The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with nine offences,

  • Two counts of supply prohibited drug (greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity)
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
  • Deal with property proceeds of crime (less than $100,000)
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
  • Possess/attempt to, anabolic or androgenic steroidal agent
  • Have custody of an offensive implement in a public place, and
  • Custody of knife in public place (two counts).

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Thursday 19 February 2026).
