A man has been charged after a woman was seriously injured following a single-vehicle crash in Sydney's inner west early this morning.
Just after 2am (Friday 7 January 2022), emergency services were called to Parramatta Road near the intersection of Hay Street, Leichhardt, following reports a white Toyota Corolla had flipped onto its roof.
On arrival, officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command were told the vehicle was allegedly travelling at speed before the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to flip.
The driver – a 35-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for mandatory testing.
The passenger – a 34-year-old woman – was trapped for some time before being released by Fire and Rescue NSW officers.
The woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with serious leg injuries.
Nearby shopfronts were damaged as result.
A crime scene was established and specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced investigations into the circumstances leading up to the crash.
About 2pm today (Friday 7 January 2022), the man was released from hospital and taken to Newtown Police Station.
He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous, drive motor vehicle while licence suspended and negligent driving (occasion grievous bodily harm).
The man was refused bail, to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 8 January 2022).
