The MidCoast Festival of Stories returns from 24 October to 14 November, bringing big-name authors, fascinating tales and plenty of opportunities to get creative.
International bestselling crime writer Michael Robotham will reveal why he has never been more excited – or nervous – about unveiling his latest novel, while award-winning author Chris Hammer will discuss his first stand-alone thriller and why it is his most ambitious story yet.
MidCoast Council's Executive Manager Public Spaces, Liam Bulley, said the festival was about celebrating the many different ways stories bring people together.
"Stories can entertain us, challenge us, teach us something new or simply help us see the world through somebody else's eyes," Mr Bulley said.
"This festival has something for everyone, whether you want to hear from some of Australia's leading authors, develop your own creative skills or simply come along and enjoy a great story.
"It's also a wonderful opportunity for our community to get involved, share their own experiences and discover just how many different ways there are to tell a story."
Writer and broadcaster James O'Loghlin will bring his trademark humour to an evening discussing his latest novel before inspiring creativity at an interactive writers' workshop.
Six-time wheelchair tennis world champion David Hall will describe what it takes to win nine Australian Opens and Paralympic gold.
There's also plenty of opportunity to become part of the storytelling. Take to the stage in the Poetry Slam competition, explore storytelling through photography with the Leaning In project, or get creative with Creative Art Journaling.
A special cultural Storytime and book reading on Country with Uncle Mick Saunders will feature in the program, along with writing workshops with Meredith Jaffe and Jacqueline Winn.
Other events will explore everything from art and perception to tales from the sepia days of Old Bar.
