Police charge man and woman after firearm aimed at police - Cranebrook

A man and woman man will face court today after a firearm was allegedly produced during an incident with police in Sydney's west yesterday.

About 12.15pm (Tuesday 27 May 2021), officers from Nepean Police Area Command were in Carpenter Street, Colyton, for an unrelated matter when they attempted to speak with the male driver and female passenger of a Nissan Dualis SUV.

During the interaction, it's alleged the driver produced a firearm. Officers attempted to smash the driver's side window before the vehicle drove from the scene.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle unattended on Hanlan Street, Cranebrook and checks revealed it had been stolen from Victoria last week.

Police patrolled the area and after a short foot pursuit, arrested a 21-year-old woman in Soling Avenue.

The man was seen running into bushland and a search of the surrounding area commenced involving officers from Nepean Police Area Command, assisted by specialist units including the Dog Unit, PolAir, the Public Order and Riot Squad and tactical police.

Following an extensive search, the 29-year-old man was located at the intersection of Andrews and Castlereagh Roads at Cranebrook and arrested.

He was taken to Penrith Police Station and was charged with drive conveyance without consent of owner, use offensive weapon in company to prevent detention, threaten injury to person with intent to prevent detention, larceny, assault police in execution of duty (x2), aggravated assault with intent to take drive motor vehicle armed with weapon, common assault, possess unregistered unauthorised prohibited firearm in public place, carry firearm in a manner likely to injure person, drive while disqualified, police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, and destroy or damage property.

The woman was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner (x2), aggravated enter dwelling in company intent to steal, use offensive weapon in company to prevent detention, assault police in the execution of duty, larceny, drive while disqualified (x2), be carried in conveyance without consent of owner (x5), dishonestly obtain property by deception, passenger not disclose driver's identity, common assault, possess prohibited drug and aggravated take/drive motor vehicle with person armed with weapon.

They were both refused bail and are expected to appear via AVL at Penrith Local Court today (Wednesday 28 July 2021).
