Police charge man over aggravated robbery at Gunnedah

A man will face court today following an alleged aggravated robbery in the state's north east on the weekend.

About 3pm on Saturday (12 March 2022), a 75-year-old man was sitting inside his vehicle in a carpark on Maitland Street, Gunnedah when he was approached by a man on a pushbike.

The man asked the 75-year-old for a cigarette before allegedly punching him in the face and fleeing from the scene on his bike, with the man's wallet.

Police will allege a large sum of money was withdrawn from the man's bank account.

Following enquiries, police arrested a 27-year-old man who was in custody for unrelated matters at Tamworth Police Station yesterday (Monday 14 March 2022).

He was charged with aggravated robbery and six counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception.

The man was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Tuesday 15 March 2022).
