A man will face court today after an alleged armed robbery at a hotel on the state's north coast last month.
About 6am on Thursday 4 June 2026, emergency services were called to a hotel on Grey Street, Clarence Town, following reports of an armed robbery.
Officers attached to Port Stephens Hunter Police District attended and were told a 52-year-old man had allegedly been assaulted by two men armed with a baseball bat and a firearm.
The two men then left the scene in the 52-year-old's vehicle with stolen cash.
The 52-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition for the treatment of head injuries.
A crime scene was established and an investigation commenced by detectives under Strike Force Damina.
Following inquiries, about 6.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 1 July 2026), strike force detectives – with assistance from State Crime Command's Raptor North – arrested a 38-year-old man at a shopping centre in Green Hills.
He was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and charged with armed robbery with dangerous weapon.
The 38-year-old was refused bail to appear before Bail Divisional Court 2 today (Thursday 2 July 2026).
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
