Police charge man over armed robbery at Wollongong

A man has been charged over an alleged armed robbery at a store in Wollongong yesterday.

Police have been told the man entered the grocery store on Crown Street and allegedly threatened a male employee with a knife about 1.20pm (Monday 15 November 2021).

The man allegedly fled with cash and the incident was reported to police.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District, with the assistance of security, commenced inquiries and a search of the area.

Following inquiries, a 28-year-old man was arrested at a unit on Kembla Street, Wollongong, a short time later.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with robbery while armed with offensive weapon – serious indictable offence, and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm.

The Wollongong man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Tuesday 16 November 2021).
