Police charge man over armed robbery at Bellambi service station

A man will appear in court today charged over an alleged armed robbery in the state's Illawarra region.

About 4.30am yesterday (Thursday 3 February 2022), a man – armed with a shot gun – entered a service station on Pioneer Road, Bellambi, and threatened a 30-year-old male employee, demanding cigarettes and cash.

The man stole several items before fleeing the area.

The employee was not physically injured during the incident.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, officers arrested a 31-year-old man at Cawley Street, Bellambi, about 10am.

A short time later, police executed a search warrant at a home at Bellambi, where officers seized cash, cigarettes and fraudulent identification documentation.

The man was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with two counts of robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, possess identity info to commit indictable offence, and deal with identity info to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 4 February 2022).
