Police charge man over arson, Upper Coomera

Police have charged a man over an alleged assault of a woman and arson at an Upper Coomera residence on Saturday, March 9.

Around 8.50pm, police received reports of a building on fire.

It will be alleged that a man assaulted a 29-year-old woman, who was known to him, at the address before pouring an accelerant throughout the property and her vehicle, then lighting it.

Neighbours immediately attended the property and extinguished the flames. The woman's vehicle sustained significant damage, however the fire did not spread to the residence.

The woman suffered injuries to her face and arms and was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Following investigations, a 31-year-old Upper Coomera man was located in northern New South Wales yesterday morning.

He was extradited back to Queensland yesterday and has since been charged with one count each of arson, endangering property by fire, assault occasioning bodily harm and wilful damage.

He is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court today, Tuesday March 12.
