Police charge man over assault and stabbing at Nyngan

A man has been charged following an investigation into a serious assault and stabbing in the state's central north.

About 8pm on Saturday (27 February 2021), a 33-year-old man was allegedly confronted by a group of men on Hoskins Street, Nyngan after leaving a party at the nearby show ground.

The group assaulted the man by hitting him across the head with a glass bottle, before stabbing him in the abdomen. It's alleged the group continued to assault the man, before fleeing.

The injured man was located by a family member a short time later and taken to Nyngan Hospital, before being taken to Dubbo Base Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Officers from Central North Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 19-year-old man was arrested at Dubbo Police Station, about 11.40am yesterday (Thursday 4 March 2021).

He was charged with reckless wounding in company.

The man appeared before Dubbo Local Court today (Friday 5 March 2021) where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on Monday (8 March 2021).

Investigations continue.
