Police Charge Man Over Assault At Newtown

A man has been charged over an alleged assault in Sydney's inner west earlier this week.

Just after 9.30am on Monday (7 July 2025), emergency services were called to Newtown Railway Station after reports a man was allegedly assaulted on the platform and knocked unconscious onto the tracks.

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attended along with NSW Ambulance paramedics who treated the 65-year-old man for injuries.

He was removed from the tracks and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for further treatment to spinal injuries.

Police commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a home on Gower Street, Summer Hill, where a 45-year-old man was arrested.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station, where he was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent.

Initial inquiries have led police to believe the men were not known to each other.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 today (Friday 11 July 2025).
