Police charge man over assault - Hammondville

A man has been charged over an alleged assault in Sydney's southwest over the weekend.

About 2pm on Sunday 6 August 2023, a spectator at a rugby league football match allegedly confronted a player at the conclusion of the match at an oval on Heathcote Road, Hammondville.

It's alleged the men had a verbal altercation before the man threatened the player with a knife.

Other spectators and players intervened and assisted before the man fled the scene.

There were no reports of injuries.

Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command attended and arrested a 19-year-old man nearby.

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged with affray, armed with intent to commit indictable offence and wield knife in a public place.

The South Wentworthville man was refused bail to appear before Liverpool Local Court today (Monday 7 August 2023), where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on Monday 21 August 2023.
