Police charge man over cannabis cultivation - South Coast

A man has been charged with prohibited drug and weapon-related offences following a search on the state's South Coast this week.

About 8.50am on Wednesday (1 December 2021), officers attached to South Coast Police District served a Firearms Prohibition Order (FPO) and a Weapons Prohibition Order (WPO) on a 36-year-old man, following a vehicle stop on West Bunberra Street, Bomaderry.

Shortly after, officers from the South Coast Proactive Crime Team conducted a compliance search at a home on the Old Princes Highway, Falls Creek.

During the search, they identified a power bypass system which led to the discovery of five large cannabis plants and a hydroponic cannabis setup.

Officers seized approximately half a kilogram of cannabis, throwing knives, a slingshot and other items relating to the cultivation of cannabis.

Further, four registered firearms and ammunition were seized from the home.

The 36-year-old man, who was not at the premises at the time of the search, was arrested at Nowra Police Station today (Friday 3 December 2021).

He was charged with cultivate prohibited plant, possess prohibited drug, possess prohibited weapon, and use/consume/waste electricity without authority.

The Falls Creek man was granted conditional bail to appear in Nowra Local Court on Friday 10 December 2021.
