Police charge man over convenience store robbery at Wollongong

A man has been charged after allegedly robbing a convenience store in Wollongong earlier this year.

About 10.10am on Friday 14 May 2021, a man entered the shop on Cabbage Tree Lane, Fairy Meadow, with his head and face concealed by a hooded jacket and face mask.

It will be alleged he approached the front counter and handed the shop attendant – a 22-year-old woman – a note demanding cash and cigarettes.

He allegedly fled with a sum of cash and cigarettes before fleeing down the driveway of a unit on Cabbage Tree Lane.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended and established a crime scene.

Following inquiries, including the examination of forensic evidence, a 36-year-old man was arrested at Wollongong Police Station just after 5.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 7 July 2021).

The Berkeley man was charged with robbery and refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 8 July 2021).
