A man will face court for drink driving near the border in the state's north.
About 8.30pm yesterday (Saturday 10 January 2026), officers attached to Tweed-Byron Police District were patrolling on Keith Compton Drive, Tweed Heads, when they located a white van with damage to its front and windscreen.
Checks reveal the vehicle was allegedly involved in an incident in Queensland earlier that evening.
A short time later, the vehicle came to stop and the driver – a 40-year-old man – was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a positive result.
He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where a secondary breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.165.
He was further subjected to a drug test, which returned a positive result.
An oral fluid sample was obtained, and an analysis returned an alleged positive indication of cannabis.
He has been charged with drive with high range PCA and illicit drug, and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday 23 February 2026.
He was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition order.
Further charges depend on the outcome of the secondary drug sample analysis.
