Police charge man over historic DV offences at Wollongong

A man will face court today charged with 27 domestic violence-related offences following an investigation by the Southern Region Domestic Violence High Risk Offender Team.

In late 2019, police commenced an investigation following reports a woman had been assaulted on numerous occasions during a previous relationship.

Following extensive inquiries, a 24-year-old man was arrested at a correctional facility at Silverwater.

He was charged with six counts of choke person intend to commit indictable offence (DV), two counts of take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage (DV), armed with intent commit indictable offence, six counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), six counts of common assault (DV), stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic), three counts of destroy or damage property (DV), aggravated enter dwelling with intent – knowing people there, and reckless grievous bodily harm (DV).

Police will allege in court that the man physically abused the woman on numerous occasions between 2015 and 2017 in the Dapto area, while they were in a relationship.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 20 February 2020).
