Police charge man over home invasion - Berala

A man will face court charged over a home invasion in Sydney's south-west yesterday.

About 9.25pm yesterday (Monday 2 January 2024), officers from Auburn Police Area Command responded to reports of a home invasion at a premises on Kingsland Road, Berala.

On arrival, police were told a man had allegedly broken into the home before pouring petrol on the floor and fleeing the scene.

Following initial inquiries, officers located and arrested a 37-year-old man at the corner of Hyde Park Road and Lilian Street.

He was taken to Auburn Police Station, where he was charged with break & enter dwelling-house with intent (damage/destroy), destroy/damage property with intent to injure, attempt damage property by fire and stalk/intimidation intend fear physical etc harm.

The Victorian man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court later today (Tuesday 2 January 2024).

The man is known to the occupiers of the home.

There were no reports of any person being injured.
