Police charge man over multiple thefts from construction sites at Lake Macquarie

Police have charged a man following investigations into thefts of machinery and tools from construction sites across the Lake Macquarie area this month.

Between Thursday 2 July and Saturday 6 July, a number of site sheds in Dora Creek, Boolaroo and Mount Hutton were broken into with property such as a quad bike, a tipper truck, heavy duty construction tools, large quantities of fuel, and power generators were stolen. The total property is believed to be worth more than $150,000.

Investigations were commenced by officers from Lake Macquarie Target Action Group resulting in the arrest of a 40-year-old man who was stopped on Albert Street, Warners Bay, in an alleged stolen tipper truck about 4pm today (Monday 8 July 2019).

He was taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with a total of 15 offences including break and enter, enter enclosed lands, possess housebreaking implements, goods in custody, take and drive conveyance and larceny.

He was refused bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 9 July 2019).
