Police charge man over pub assault at Liverpool

A man has been charged after an alleged assault at a licensed venue in Sydney's south west last weekend.

About 2.30pm on Saturday 27 June 2020, a 48-year-old man was at a hotel on the Hume Highway, when he was allegedly hit from behind by another man.

The man was allegedly further assaulted during a struggle before onlookers intervened.

The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment to facial injuries including a fractured jaw, a fractured eye socket and broken nose.

He remains in hospital and is due to undergo surgery today (Friday 3 July 2020).

Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command attended and commenced investigations into the incident.

Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 22-year-old man at a home in Liverpool just after 7am today.

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday 5 August 2020.
