Police charge man over public place shooting - Punchbowl

A man has been charged following investigations into a public place shooting and assault in Sydney's south-west last year.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command were called to a park on Viola Street, Punchbowl, just after 3pm on Friday 29 November 2019, after reports shots had been fired.

Police will allege a 31-year-old man was shot at several times, before he was assaulted. He suffered serious injuries to his face and torso.

A crime scene was established, and detectives commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, a 19-year-old man was arrested at Green Valley Police Station just after 9am yesterday (Friday 7 February 2020), and taken to Liverpool Police Station.

A search warrant was executed at a house on Sadlier Avenue, Heckenberg, where a number of items were seized.

He was charged with discharge firearm intend cause grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others.

The man was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 8 February 2020).
