Police Charge Man Over Pursuits Posted To Social Media

A man will appear in court today charged over a number of alleged pursuits with police in the Illawarra and South Coast.

Just after 5.30pm on Wednesday 26 February 2025, police were alerted to a motorcycle travelling southbound on the M1 at Dapto, in excess of the speed limit.

Officers attached to Illawarra Traffic and Highway Patrol Command sighted the motorcycle at Albion Park and attempted to stop it shortly after; however, the rider accelerated away and a pursuit was initiated, reaching speeds of more than 200km/h as it continued travelling south.

Due to the reckless and dangerous manner of riding, the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

Police will allege the same motorcycle and rider were involved in a further pursuit just before 6pm the same day on the Princes Highway.

An investigation was launched by officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Far South sector.

Following inquiries, about 6.30am today (Thursday 12 June 2025), Highway Patrol officers stopped a vehicle at Killarney Heights.

The driver – a 33-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Manly Police Station. During a search, officers seized a mobile phone and a small clear resealable bag, believed to contain cocaine in his possession.

A search warrant was subsequently executed at the man's nearby home with officers seizing number plates, electronic equipment, clothing and other items relevant to the investigation. The seized items will undergo forensic investigation.

The man was charged with two counts of police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed, motor vehicle exceed speed more than 45 km/h, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, two counts of fail to give information leading to driver's identification, not give particulars to owner of damaged property, owner not disclose identity of driver/passenger, and possess prohibited drug.

Police will allege in court that the man was the motorcycle rider involved in the pursuits with police and helmet camera footage was later posted to social media, reaching speeds up to 299km/h.

He was refused bail to appear at Manly Local Court today (Friday 13 June 2025).
