Police charge man over sexual abuse of young girl near Wollongong

A man is due to face court today charged following an investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a young girl in the Illawarra region.

Last month, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a young girl had been sexually abused by a man who was known to her.

Following inquiries, officers arrested a 30-year-old man at Wollongong Police Station about 10am on Wednesday 6 May 2020.

He was charged with two counts of intentionally sexually touch child (between 10 to 16 years) and indecent assault person under 16 years.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually abused the girl on three occasions between 2014 and 2019 while she was in his care.

He appeared at Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday 6 May 2020 and was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Nowra Local Court today (Tuesday 19 May 2020).

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
