Police charge man over sexual assault of girl at Albury

A man will appear in court today charged by detectives investigating the alleged sexual assault of a girl in the state's south.

In October 2019, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a man she met on social media.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 28-year-old man at Albury Police Station about 1pm yesterday (Tuesday 21 January 2020).

He was charged with aggravated sex assault-victim under the age of 16 years and have sexual intercourse with child between 10 and 14 years.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually assaulted the girl in October 2019.

The man was refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court today (Wednesday 22 January 2020).

Investigations are continuing.
