Police charge man over theft of taxi in Sydney City

A man's been charged following the alleged theft of a taxi from Sydney's CBD earlier this month.

About 8.50pm on Friday 4 November 2022, a silver taxi was parked on Hunter Street, Sydney, when an unknown man allegedly damaged the vehicle.

Police have been told the man then threatened the taxi's driver – a 52-year-old man – before allegedly stealing the taxi and fleeing.

The vehicle was later recovered in Woollahra and had sustained significant damage.

Following inquiries – including a social media appeal for information – a 42-year-old man attended Waverley Police Station about 10pm yesterday (Thursday 10 November 2022).

He has since been charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, drive recklessly or furiously or speed and manner dangerous-1st offence, and drive vehicle under influence of alcohol.

The Bronte man was granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 7 December 2022.
