Police charge man with robberies

Rockingham Detectives have charged a man as a result of their investigation into an armed robbery in Orelia in September 2020 and in Shoalwater in February 2021 that were linked to the use of a messaging application.

It will be alleged the man communicated with the victims (two men in their 30s) via a secure messaging application 'Telegram'. They would arrange to meet and at the meeting the man would threaten the victims with a knife and steal their cash and mobile phones.

As a result a 25-year-old Shoalwater man has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Armed Robbery.

His next court appearance is in the Rockingham Magistrates Court 24 March 2021.

Detectives would like to remind the public it is important to be vigilant when it comes to personal safety and the risks associated with meeting strangers in isolated areas after engaging with them on anonymous platforms like Telegram.

Anyone who may also be a victim or has any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au
