Police charge man with arson after deliberately lit fires at Kingston

A 57 year old man has been charged with arson following a number of deliberately lit fires at Kingston.

Between 5:30am and 6:00am on Friday 3 May, police and fire service attended three deliberately lit fires in the Kingston CBD which caused a total of approximately $20,000 damage to four businesses including:

– Kingborough Medical Centre;

– Salvation Army;

– Chopsticks Restaurant; and

– Leap Health.

No one was injured.

Just after 6am, members of the public observed smoke at the rear of one of the businesses. They apprehended a man leaving the rear of that businesses and called police. The man was taken into custody shortly after by police.

Following investigations, the man was charged with 3 counts of Arson and detained to appear in an out of hours court tomorrow.

Police would like to thank the members of the public who helped extinguish the fires, apprehended the suspect, called emergency services, and assisted with the investigation.
