Police charge man with Criminal Code assault of police officer

A 28 year old Waverley has been charged with a range of serious offences, including Criminal Code assault of a police officer, following an evade incident in Launceston yesterday.

Launceston Uniform Police and Detectives from Northern CIB apprehended the man in the Ravenswood area about 12.10pm yesterday.

The man was wanted for a significant series of alleged burglaries in the greater Launceston area and had allegedly evaded police while driving on a number of occasions, including driving at a police motorcyclist.

The man was charged with a number of serious offences including 1 x assault police officer (Criminal Code), 1 x aggravated assault (Criminal Code), 4 x driving while disqualified, 4 x evade police, 1 x aggravated burglary, 1 x attempted aggravated burglary.

The man appeared in an out of hours session of the Launceston Magistrates Court last night and was remanded to reappear tomorrow at 10am.
