Police charge man with deliberately lighting a fire at Nowra

A man has been charged after it is alleged he lit a fire in bushland at Nowra yesterday.

About 5.30pm (Saturday 14 September 2019), emergency services attended an area between Depot Road and Berry Street following reports of a bushfire.

The fire was extinguished and had spread approximately 100 square meters in size.

A crime scene was established, and an investigation commenced.

About 8.40am today (Sunday 15 September 2019), police arrested a 40-year-old man on Berry Street, Nowra.

He was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with intentionally cause fire and be reckless as to its spread.

The man was refused bail and will appear in Nowra Local Court tomorrow (Monday 16 September 2019).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of 21 years.
