Police charge man with DV and firearm offences - Ashmont

A man has been charged with domestic violence and firearm-related offences in Ashmont at the weekend.

Police were called to a home on Ashmont Avenue, about 7.30pm (Saturday 17 August 2019), after reports of a domestic-related dispute, where they spoke with a 37-year-old woman and three girls, aged 6, 7, and 10.

Police will allege that a man who is known to the 37-year-old woman assaulted her at the Ashmont home, dragging her through a bedroom window, before leaving.

The woman sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident and did not require hospitalisation.

Following inquiries, officers attached to Riverina Police District – with assistance from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command – executed a search warrant at a home on Blakemore Avenue, Ashmont, and arrested a 34-year-old man without incident.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with possess loaded firearm endanger life non-public place, assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), larceny, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm.

The Ashmont man was refused bail to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Monday 19 August 2019).

Police will allege the man threatened the woman with a firearm – while the children were present – at the Blakemore Avenue home on Friday 16 August 2019.
