A man has been charged with e-scooter and breach of bail offences in the Illawarra.
About 8.25am on Saturday 28 March 2026, police were conducting an E-Voltage Operation when they allegedly detected a man riding an e-scooter on the Blue Mile pathway along North Wollongong beach.
Police will allege they observed a man riding a privately owned e-scooter, without a helmet and two children – aged 2 and 6 – on board the scooter wearing helmets.
Officers stopped and spoke to the 42-year-old man, with checks revealing his driver's license was suspended until March 2030.
A breath test allegedly returned a positive reading.
He was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station where another sample was taken and returned a positive reading for cannabis. The sample was sent away for secondary testing.
He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, not wear approved bicycle helmet securely fitted/fastened, ride electric scooter carry another person/animal, use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, use uninsured motor vehicle on road, breach of bail and issued a 24-hour driving prohibition order.
He was refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 3 on Saturday 28 March 2026, where he was granted conditional bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 7 April 2026.
