Police charge man with escaping lawful custody at Gatton

Police have charged a 25-year-old Regency Downs man with nine offences after he allegedly fled lawful custody earlier today.

He has been charged with escape lawful custody, deprivation of liberty, serious assault of a person over 60, assault police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, robbery, possession of dangerous drugs, fail to take reasonable care with syringe and unlicensed driving.

He is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court tomorrow (Tuesday, November 19).

A 76-year-old Gatton woman, who was alleged forced to drive the man to Helidon was not physically injured.

Police have located and arrested a man who escaped lawful custody in Gatton today.

Around 12.30pm the man was being returned to Gatton Watchhouse after attending court when he fled.

He then jumped into a woman's car and demanded she drive him to Helidon where she dropped him off.

Police, the dog squad and Polair participated in the search and located the 25-year-old man at an address in Placid Hills where he was taken into custody.

He is expected to be charged overnight.
