Police charge man with firearms offences at Auburn

A man will appear in court today charged after firearms and ammunition were seized in Sydney's south west yesterday.

About 12.40pm (Thursday 16 July 2020), police were called to the office of a business on South Parade, Auburn, after reports two men were refusing to leave the premise.

Police have been told the two men, who are known to each other, entered a storage room at the back of the business, carrying a large television box, and refused to leave when asked.

Officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command attended and about 2pm, a 27-year-old man exited the room without incident and was arrested.

The second man left the scene before police arrived.

Upon searching the room, police located a black duffel bag with ammunition and a replica M16 assault rifle allegedly concealed inside. Police also seized a black box with an SKS self-loading rifle with three magazines.

The 27-year-old was taken to Auburn Police Station and charged with possess unauthorised firearm, possess unregistered firearm (prohibited), possess ammunition without holding permit, not keep firearm safely (prohibited), acquire prohibited firearm (subject to prohibition order) and two counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.

The South Granville man was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court today (Friday 17 July 2020).
