Police charge man with GBH after Burleigh Heads assault

Broadbeach detectives have charged a man with grievous bodily harm following an alleged assault in Burleigh Heads last evening (October 1).

It will be alleged shortly after 8pm a 19-year-old local man was walking through the Justins Lane carpark with friends when an argument occurred with a man in the carpark.

It will be further alleged the 19-year-old man was punched to the head causing him to fall backwards striking his head on the ground. The other man ran from the scene.

He was transported to hospital in an unconscious state with critical head injuries.

Patrolling police located a 28-year-old Burleigh Heads man in the nearby vicinity. He was arrested and charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm and drunk or disorderly conduct on premises. He has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on October 3.

The men were not known to each other.
