Police charge man with sexual abuse and procurement of teenage girl at Armidale

A man will appear in court today charged with seven offences after he allegedly sexually abused a teenage girl in the state's New England region.

Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a 15-year-old girl had been sexually abused by a man she met on social media in March 2019.

Following extensive inquiries, a 35-year-old man was arrested at a home in Armidale about 11am yesterday (Thursday 23 May 2019).

Officers subsequently executed a search warrant at the home and seized several items including drug paraphernalia, and electronic storage devices.

The man was taken to Armidale Police Station and charged with perform body piercing on any part of the nipples of child, procure child for unlawful sexual activity, produce child abuse material, intentionally sexually touch child, and aggravated sexual assault (x3).

Police will allege in court that the man offered the girl money and drugs for sexual intercourse.

He was refused bail to appear at Armidale Local Court today (Friday 24 May 2019).

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
