Police charge man with sexual assault of woman at Wollongong

A man will face court today charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a woman near Wollongong.

In September 2018, detectives from Wollongong Police District commenced an investigation, following reports a 30-year-old woman had been sexually assault on numerous occasions.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 55-year-old man at a home in Mt St Thomas about 7.30am today (Friday 31 January 2020).

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of sexually assault person with cognitive impairment.

Police will allege in court the man sexually assaulted the woman, who is known to him, on several occasions between 2016 and 2018.

The man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 31 January 2020).
