Police charge man with strangulation, stalking and breaching domestic violence orders at Ipswich

Ipswich detectives have charged a man with strangulation, stalking and breaches of domestic violence orders, as well as several other offences, after officer arrested the man when he was found allegedly secreted inside a bedframe at a woman's house.

Police will allege on May 25, a man forced entry into an Ipswich home seriously assaulting a woman, including strangling her. Neighbours observed a disturbance at the residence and attempted to intervene causing the man to flee.

The woman fled the house and contacted police, who removed her and her children to a place of safety and commenced an investigation.

Around 11am yesterday (May 26), investigations led police to the man's car located several blocks from the woman's address before detectives and specialist police from the Public Safety Response Team entered the woman's home and allegedly located the man concealed inside the base of her bed.

He has been charged with nine domestic violence related offences including three counts of contravening a domestic violence order, two counts of burglary and commit an indictable offence, and one count each of deprivation of liberty, strangulation/choking, unlawful stalking and enter dwelling with intent.

The 33-year-old was denied police bail and remanded in custody to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court today.Suburbs of individuals have not been released for privacy reasons.
