Police charge man with using carriage service to menace, harass and cause offence over social media post

Detectives from the Tasmania Police Cyber and Child Exploitation Crime Division have charged a 70 year old Hobart man with using a carriage service to menace, harass and cause offence in relation to a social media post.

Police alleged the post was directed towards a victim-survivor of a historical crime. A social media provider has also suspended the man's account.

The man was charged following the execution of a search warrant, with the Australian Federal Police assisting at the search scene.

The man is due to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on 5 December 2022.
