Police charge teen after crashing through fences in stolen car at Lake Illawarra

An unlicensed teenager has been charged with multiple offences allegedly committed in a stolen car in the Illawarra overnight.

Shortly after 1am (Wednesday 22 April 2020), a 17-year-old boy allegedly broke into a home in Stanwell Park and stole a Toyota Prado.

The vehicle was tracked by Polair as it travelled south, before coming to a stop on Hunter Street in Barrack Heights.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended and attempted to speak with the teen.

He refused to get out of the car and drove through the fence of a nearby property. The car continued to drive through fences of four properties before coming to rest against a tree in the backyard of a home on Denison Street.

The teen attempted to flee on foot and was arrested a short time later, before being taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter, goods in custody, take and drive conveyance without consent, steal motor vehicle, unlicensed driver (never held), trespassing and dangerous driving.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in a children's court today (Wednesday 22 April 2020).
