Police Charge Three After Pursuit At Coonamble

Three people have been charged after an alleged pursuit in the states west last night.

Just after 8pm (Saturday 6 June 2026), officers attached to Western Region Operational Support Group attempted to stop a vehicle allegedly speeding northbound on the Castlereagh Highway, approximately 40km south of Coonamble.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit was soon terminated due to safety concerns.

A short time later, spikes were successfully deployed; however, the vehicle continued to Castlereagh Street, where it came to a stop and the vehicle caught alight.

The four occupants ran from the vehicle, and with the assistance of the Dog Unit, the alleged driver, a 24-year-old man, and three passengers were arrested nearby.

All four were taken to Coonamble Police Station where the driver was charged with,

- Police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed,

- Drive, licence suspended under s 66 Fines Act, and

- Breach of bail.

A passenger, a 31-year-old man, was charged with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic) and breach of bail.

Both men were refused bail to appear before Bail Division Cout 4 later today (Sunday 7 June 2026).

Another passenger, a 21-year-old woman was served a Court Attendance Notice charged with goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle).

She is due to appear before Gilgandra Local Court on Thursday 3 August 2026.

The third passenger was released pending further inquiries.

The vehicle fire was extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW, and the vehicle was seized by police.
